ONAM 2025
The Onam celebration at FMTC, Mylapore, in 2025 was conducted with great enthusiasm and rich cultural spirit as part of the Sahasrayam Community Living Camp, marking the fourth day of the camp. The day became truly special and memorable, as it beautifully showcased the traditions, values, and festive essence of Kerala.
The celebrations began with a variety of cultural activities that reflected the true spirit of Onam. A Malayalam Manga Competition was organized, in which students participated with great excitement and creativity. I had the joyful opportunity to take part in this competition, which added a personal sense of happiness and involvement to the celebration.
Adding colour and life to the event, students enacted the traditional characters of Vamanan and Mahabali (Mahabali Thampuran), bringing the legendary Onam story to the stage. Their engaging performances captured the attention of the audience and greatly enhanced the festive atmosphere.
One of the major highlights of the day was the grand Athappookalam, beautifully designed and arranged by the students of the college. The vibrant floral artwork symbolized unity, creativity, and cultural pride, and stood as a central attraction of the celebrations.
The programme concluded with a traditional Onam Sadhya, which was enjoyed by all the participants. The delicious feast served as a perfect and joyful conclusion to the day’s festivities.
Overall, the Onam celebration at FMTC during the Sahasrayam Camp was a delightful and enriching experience filled with joy, cultural learning, and togetherness. The event strengthened our appreciation for Kerala’s rich heritage and created lasting memories for everyone involved.
