Weekly Reflection – First Week (FIRST PHASE)
Date: July 14 – July 17, 2025
“Teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions.”
The first week of my teaching practice was a journey of discovery, challenges, and small victories. As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, I, along with my friends Aleena and Aiswarya from the English Department of Fathima Memorial Training College, Mylapore, began our internship at Government HSS Anchalummood on July 14, 2025.
The atmosphere of the school was very welcoming, and the staff were supportive. This week, we actively participated in various duties including substitution classes, classroom management, lunch serving, and even took on the role of judges for an extempore competition.
One of the highlights of my teaching this week was taking Class 8F for the poem “The Seven Ages of Man” by William Shakespeare. While handling the class came with its fair share of challenges, especially in managing discipline, it was a great learning curve.
A memorable moment was when we worked together to prepare and display a chart for the English subject exhibition as part of the Reading Week celebrations. We also conducted a Shakespeare quiz, which was received enthusiastically by the students. Additionally, a meeting between English teachers and trainees helped guide our teaching strategies and planning for the weeks ahead.
This week made me deeply realize that teaching is not just about delivering lessons — it's about inspiring, managing, adapting, and growing with your students. In the coming days, I plan to include more interactive games and learner-centered activities to keep students engaged and joyful in learning.
