WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL DAY CELEBRATION @ FMTC

Fathima Memorial Training College, Mylapore, Kollam, through its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), observed World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, with the meaningful theme “Heal the Earth, Ditch the Plastic.” The programme was organized to raise awareness about environmental conservation and to promote eco-friendly practices among students and faculty members.

The celebration was formally inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. M. Omanaseelan, who delivered an inspiring address highlighting the urgent need to protect the environment and minimize plastic usage. He emphasized the responsibility of individuals, particularly future educators, in cultivating sustainable habits and fostering environmental awareness in society.

A range of well-planned activities formed part of the celebration, including sapling planting, a campus-wide plastic collection drive, a green spot photography competition, and an eco-fashion show. These activities were designed to actively engage participants while reinforcing the importance of sustainable living and environmental responsibility.

Both students and faculty participated with great enthusiasm, making the programme lively and impactful. The plastic collection drive encouraged responsible waste management, while the photography competition motivated participants to observe and appreciate the natural beauty of the campus. The eco-fashion show emerged as a major highlight, featuring innovative costumes created from recycled materials and effectively conveying the message of sustainability.

Overall, the World Environment Day celebration at FMTC successfully reinforced the values of environmental stewardship and inspired the campus community to adopt eco-conscious practices in their daily lives, contributing towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The atmosphere of the school was very welcoming, and the staff were supportive. This week, we actively participated in various duties including substitution classes, classroom management, lunch serving, and even took on the role of judges for an extempore competition. WEEKLY REFLECTION SIXTH WEEK (FIRST PHASE)

The past week of my teaching practice (Days 21–25) was both engaging and rewarding. On Day 21, after the Onam vacation, I taught Articles through the Concept Attainment Model, where students actively discovered rules through examples and non-examples. The following days (22–25) were dedicated to the inspiring chapter The Day My World Changed by Malala Yousafzai, taught using ICT. Each day, I carried the chapter forward step by step, making use of PowerPoint slides, visuals, and activity cards to bring Malala’s story to life. Students were highly motivated, sharing their thoughts on education and courage, which made the lessons more meaningful. I also had varied experiences beyond the classroom, like serving the midday meal, handling substitution hours, and managing double-period sessions.
